Last, the connection is not automatic - you have to manually tell it to connect. OK, it is only a few seconds, but for use as a continuous MPG monitor (for example), it gets a bit tiresome waiting to make sure it connects.

The second is that the software takes a while to connect to the system. It would have been nicer to be able to plug in more OBD-II devices. The first is that the dongle is not pass-through it puts a cap on the end of the OBD-II port. Each of these sections has a recording feature, which could be very useful for showing the mechanic what is going on.I found only a couple of drawbacks. So not all sensors may be supported by your vehicle. Some of the things did not work on my 2002 Civic, probably because they are not recorded by the computer - like coolant temperature (the Civic already has a temp dial on the dash). I provide the entire list after the review for those interested, but basically it has a section to monitor performance (acceleration, horsepower, and torque), MPG (dealing with instant and average MPG, vehicle range), Engine (timing, intake, MAP, etc), and Towing (almost identical to the engine except adds FRP). The software offers the option to set up an email address to send diagnostic reports, and keeps a history. The second feature is a basic information display, a few of which are continuous. I didn't follow the link, but in my opinion and at this price point, the device should come with all the information available. The only troubling thing is that I noticed a small note at the bottom of the scan screen saying that I could purchase more codes, presumably meaning more information about what the codes mean. I didn't have any codes when I checked, so I can't say how well it works, but at least is did scan. The codes are simple letter/number strings, so an explanation is needed as to what it actually means the software provides this. These codes can be read by the dealer or mechanic - or now, by the owner with a device such as this one. All vehicles that feature the OBD-II connection generate codes when something goes wrong with the engine or other components. The first is that it can read diagnostic codes, and can provide basic explanations of what they mean.

Registration for a free Innova account and entry of the VIN number is required. There are two main features of the software. But even with no additional information the basic readouts work fine. The more you enter into the software, the more information it provides. One thing to note is that some of the sensors will either not work or not be as accurate unless you enter more data on your vehicle into the software, such as the size of the gas tank, or even more advanced data that most folks won't know. Once the dongle is detected, the software can connect. Then you do a Bluetooth search for a new device (the dongle) just like you do to connect a headset or other BT device.

One I finally got the manual, the PDF was actually very good, with lots of great explanations of how the engine works and what diagnostics are collected. The software works by entering the VIN number of your vehicle (visible through the windshield, and other places).

I had to go to the website separately and search for the manuals and get the link to the software at the play store. The documentation comes with a QR code that can be scanned to get the software, but when I used it the web page contained only another copy of the warranty. I tested it on Android, but an app is available on Apple products as well.

Find the OBD-II port location on your vehicle (check online), plug in the dongle, and then download the app to view the data. It is powered by the OBD-II port and requires no batteries.Use is quite simple. The device itself has a single light that goes red when powered up and green when connected to a bluetooth enabled phone. The picture shows both sides of a single device. I find it to have simple hardware and software installation, to provide good information, but to be a bit slow to connect for daily use. Before you even buy this device, make sure your car supports OBD-II (most post 1998 cars do)!The picture on the site is a bit confusing - the packaging contains only one dongle (which is what these sort of things are called). I own a 2002 Civic that does not have a trip computer installed from the factory, so I ordered this device to see if it could fill in the gap.
